TWiWS 016: Liefeld = Bad, Jim Lee = Good...

Now this is a version of Robin we like, courtesy of Jim Lee.

Robin, The Boy Wonder, by Jim Lee

Over at Newsarama.com, DC is showing the first color looks of Frank Miller and Jim Lee's upcoming All-Star Batman and Robin, The Boy Wonder #1. And yes, that is Dick Grayson as Robin, The Boy Wonder.

TWiWS 015: "And you created X-Force!"

Rob Liefeld?!?! NOOO!!!!....Warning: Even though this is part of my This Week in WildStorm series, this has nothing to do with WildStorm. In fact, it may well mean the end of the world as we know it...

As the title of this post goes, I think that was how the MTV commercial went when referring to Rob Liefeld, from the former Extreme Studios, Maximum Press, et cetera. Of New Mutants and X-Force fame, as well as of Youngblood notoriety, Rob is back again, now messing with DC's Teen Titans. Follow this link to Newsarama's interview with the comics bad boy. Will it be something kewl to look forward to, or just another Rob Liefeld book, signifying the end of civilization? You decide.

Rare Air, Part 2: The Air Jordan XIX

THe Air Jordan XIX

The AIr Jordan XIX.

I'm going to make this a quick post regarding the Air Jordan XIX, mainly because this is one of the few Air Jordan editions I do not own myself. Plus, with the help of my beautiful wife, I was able to play around with the animated image above (images originally from Footlocker.com).

The Air Jordan XIX was the first AJ to be released with Regional Editions, one each for the East Coast (White/Blue), the Mid West (Red/White), and the West Coast (Black/White). The regular editions were both the Black and the White/Grey. But even though you lived in one part of the country, eventually, all editions were made available via local Nike Outlet stores, but even then, I was not able to find my size, and thus, no AJ XIX for me.

Next time, we'll look at the Air Jordan XIX SE (Special Edition).

TWiWS 014: Enough with the Countdown already!

DC Countdown To Infinite Crisis 2nd Printing

For those of you visiting Borderlands Comics and Games regularly in Jacksonville, Florida, and speak to me, Jason B, about DC Comics and such, are you tired about me going on and on about DC's Countdown To Infinite Crisis? Or is it, am I tired of you yourself asking me about it? Well, in either case, I present to you DC's Crisis Counseling. Located here in case you need to see the link:

http://www.dccomics.com/features/countdown/index.php

First noted, at least to me, on Newsarama.com, DC will be updating this little news site of theirs with what's happening in the DCU with respect to this Countdown and to the actual Infinite Crisis itself, which is due later in the Fall of 2005. I suggest you go there now, so that any news I may need to tell you at the store, is already read by you over at this site.

Just tell them that Jason B sent ya! Thanks everyone!

P.S. How does this relate to WildStorm, you're asking? Well, look again who drew the cover above. Duh.

Rare Air, Part 1: The Air Jordan XX

Under the category of Pop Culture, we're going to take a quick look at fashion, specifically, the area of high end sports foot wear...

Here is the first installment of counting down the history of Air Jordans. We're going to start with the latest, the Air Jordan XX, and work our way back to the Air Jordan I. Thanks to Nike's Brand Jordan, those of us not lucky enough to collect the shoes when they first came out are now able to purchase Retro Editions, but often the most limited Air Jordan Retro or regular editions are sold out immediately. I guess out of some weird luck or such, I'm not currently employed in a great paying job, so I'm not able to get all of the Air Jordans I like, but at least with the Internet, I can at least pay homage to them, in my own unique way.

First off: The Air Jordan XX

Air Jordan XX Quick Strike Edition

Released in February 2005, the Air Jordan XX celebrates the rich history of the Air Jordan line with a laser etched shoe lace cover with etching depicting key moments in Air Jordan history. As for me, I have to pass on this exclusive shoe, as well as pass of the first White/Black version and the all Black "Stealth" version. However, if all goes well in future career plans, I can plan for one of these regional editions to be released in July.

Air Jordan XX West Regional Edition

Air Jordan XX East Regional Edition

Air Jordan XX Mid West Regional Edition

For more information, check out the following:

Next time, The Air Jordan XIX...

TWiWS 013: Finale at NHM, hello VI!

Majestic #4

Coming out tomorrow at fine comic book stores will be Majestic #4. Preview copies were made available to retailers last week, so I was able to peruse the issue beforehand. The story wraps up the mystery of the space going arc, but a new mystery begins and will continue in forthcoming issues. Some decent WS super hero stuff, here.

Coming out later in July, we have only three WildStorm Universe books:

Week of July 6: The Intimates #9

Week of July 13: Majestic #7

Week of July 20: The Authority: Revolution #10

Head over to DC's official WildStorm web site for more info!

Well, as indicated on the title of this post, this will be the last This Week in WildStorm post, but last only here at Near Mint Heroes. Shane's going about a new direction, and I don't want to bog down his site with my extra musings over one aspect of comics. However, I'll be posting my TWiWS articles over here at Dave's site, Visionary Ink, unless he decides to delete this post, hehe. You can still find these posts over at my own home blog, located here. I'm working on registering my own site, but still working out the technical details, along with the financials as well.

Thanks to everyone reading this at NHM, and find me over at VI!

Too Kewl Update 004: The NFL Experience

Jason and Cynthia, The NFL Experience, Feb. 5, 2005

Just wanted to post a scan of an image of me and my wife, Cynthia, over at The NFL Experience. Superbowl XXXIX was held at our home town of Jacksonville, Florida, this past February 6, 2005, and this picture was taken the day before on Saturday, February 5.

That's one hot looking babe next to me, eh?

TWiWS 012: Seeing Red...

DC COuntodown To Infinite Crisis #1

Well, not much to report regarding WildStorm this week, but we do have Jim Lee's work on DC Countdown To Infinite Crisis, as shown above. Check out more information on this new story line from DC here at their official web site.

However, prior to this year's story line, we had last year's Identity Crisis. I myself was not reading the story when it originally came out, but working at Borderlands Comics and Games recently allowed me to catch up and read the story for myself. I personally would rather get a hard cover edition of the series, but DC, with all their marketing madness, has decided to redo the mini-series one last time with Final Printings, all in a red color scheme, to be released through out the month of April. Check out the images of Identity Crisis #1 and #4 Final Printings, plus the thumbnails of the entire reprinted series below.

Thanks everyone, and happy belated Easter to the Christian world!

TWiWS 010: A Reminder...

DC Countdown Cover by Jim Lee and Alex Ross

Just a reminder: TWiWS stands for This Week in WildStorm.... This is for those of you joining us late and are wondering, "What the heck does TWiWS mean???"

Well, I'm still unemployed from a decent IT job as a recent interview and possible opportunity with a good mortgage company fell through. Oh well. But I did have a good meeting with Shane and another good friend, Dave Chapman, from Stacking The Deck. We talked about Shane and Dave's upcoming plans, including Dave's own Visionary Ink. This is the current link for now, but look out for more from Dave and Shane on this interesting endeavor.

And as for the image above-- done by WildStorm's head honcho, Jim Lee, with painter extraordinaire, Alex Ross-- or those wondering when DC Countdown #1 is coming out, it's due to come out at the end of March, on March 30. So hold your horses, folks!

Das it for now. Gotta run. Will be back for more a bit later. Good night, y'all!

TWiWS 009: "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi"

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Just a quick update at this time. First of all, Majestic #3 is due out this coming Wednesday, March 9, so be sure to get your copy. Borderlands Comics and Games has the preview copy, so I was able to read it before this Wednesday, and I must say, the mystery of the ark continues...

Well, above you'll see a nice photo of the Obi-Wan Kenobi figure from the upcoming Attacktix miniatures/action figure game from Hasbro. I must say, it looks kewl, and I figure I post the link to the news blip from Hasbro just so all of those folks I mentioned this to in person will know what I am talking about. Just another game and item to collect from the upcoming merchandise madness from Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Can't wait to get mine.

And as for Shane, I'll be sure to pick up the slack, but I'll also be sure to prod him along with his rebuilding of sorts. We all know this place can't just live on posts from me alone, can it now?

You folks have a great start to the week now!

Too Kewl Update 002: What is love?

'Air

What is love? Is love waiting in line at 4:00 AM on a Saturday morning at the local mall, in the cold and wet North Florida February weather, trying to get my hands on the Limited Edition Air Jordan XIII Retro "Altitudes"? Is love paying almost $300.00 for them because you didn't want to risk getting a cold, or risk being mugged since you'd be out there by yourself, amongst many other younger Jordan fans? Or is love just settling for the fact that you're unemployed and out of work since April last year, married with a beautiful and loving (and sexy) wife, and have other priorities and responsibilities in your life? Well, I guess I choose the last, huh? Above is the infamous shoe, as offered on UptempoAir.com. I did not get my hands on this shoe, and I doubt I will.

Oh well. *sigh*

My last pair of Air Jordans, much like my other buys, was when I could get the shoes at a respectable discount. I usually wait to buy shoes on sale or at an outlet. The below shoes, the Air Jordan XIX SE "Olympic Edition", I got on sale for $129.00, with an additional 35% off discount during Footlocker's Friends and Family Sale. Not bad, since it was originally $165.00. Well, when I do land the next good job, I do hope to get me a pair of the newest Air Jordan XXs, and the next new Retros, and the next... Here's hoping for that job, eh?

'Air

TWiWS 008: Fair weather sketching....

Okay, I'll admit, the above image is a deliberate swipe. It's direct from the WildStorm Blog, Gelatometti. It's kewl to see Jim Lee over there regularly posting, along with the others from the WS crew. And it's also doubly kewl to know there's still Gen13 and Fairchild fans out there. Here's a direct link to the specific posting I am referring to. And here's a blatant plug to my out dated Gen13 WebSite, which I do plan to resurrect...

It's the morning after Wednesday's new comics day, so I have yet to read the latest issues of The Intimates or Razor's Edge: Warblade. The new X-Men: Age of Apocalypse 10th Anniversary issues are out, and I plan to maybe post about that, if I can find some WildStorm angle to it. But I did want to plug DC's Seven Soldiers story line. You need to be reading this, trust me on this.

I'll be back with more, soon enough!

TWiWS 007: Where are we?...

So where are we? Well, hopefully, you fellow readers can read this post. For me, I'm posting blindly as for the past week, I have not been able to get into NearMintHeroes.com. Well, in any case, I have a mission to fulfill, so here's the latest This Week in WildStorm.

Tomorrow, on Wednesday, March 2, we will see the release of the next issues of The Intimates and Razor's Edge: Warblade. At the shop I work at part-time-- Borderlands Comics and Games of Jacksonville, Florida-- another customer said that The Intimates was just too hard to follow, with all of the extra color text and such. Well, I figure you just have to be in the right mood to read such a book. To me, it's a good read, and is not a bad outlet for the musings of Joe Casey and company. With R.E.: Warblade, you have some great Simon Bisley art, and a great story following the tale of the former WildC.A.T.s hero.

I also got in my inbox this morning an EMAIL from JScottCampbell.com:

JSC's Wildsiderz

Hopefully, the hype will be followed by a regular scheduled book. We can only hope...

And just in case, here's a link to my own personal blog, which also mirrors posts that I make over here, but has links to my own stuff I have been working on, that's not all entirely related to WildStorm and comics.

Well, till next time, y'all take

Too Kewl Update 001: Job Wanted!

Greetings everyone!

I updated the links to the right to include some resume information, including an HTML Web Version of my resume, an MS Word version, and an Adobe Acrobat PDF version.

I hope this helps in landing me a job!

TWiWS 006: What I'm Playing...

Wildstorms CCG

Okay, now is the time to list out my current favorite games. This will include board games and miniatures games, as well as video games. Sorry, no PC gaming at this time. I just have a rule at home that video games reside solely on the console, such as an Xbox or a PlayStation 2, and not on the PC. However, one of my goals later this year is to build my own PC from the mother board and up, so maybe at that time, I'll mess around with PC games. Just maybe. So in no particular order, here's the games I am playing:

Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising
This is the current game in my Game Boy Advance SP. What a great buy! My friend Dom mentioned I should check this out as the game was only ten bucks over at Best Buy. Without a doubt, it's worth the $10, and maybe a little more. I just like strategy games on my GBA SP, like the ones I listed I played below. I still want to get Zelda and Kingdom Hearts for my GBA, and I do want to get a Sony PSP later in March, but for now, for my ten dollars, this is a great game!

Twilight Imperium, Third Edition
Thankfully, I myself did not have to pay for this game. At about $80.00 MSRP, it's a big purchase, but thankfully, fellow co-worker Ali, at Borderlands Comics and Games, got this game, and showed me and a few others last Friday how to play. Let me tell you, it's one great game. I'm hooked now, and now I'm trying to get my hands on a color copy of the rulebook, and looking forward to the next game over at Borderlands!

MLB Sportsclix
2004 brought us the first edition of this game, and 2005 will bring us a re-vamped edition. A "Clix" game from the creators of Mage Knight and HeroClix, WizKids Games entered the sports market with the 2004 set. 2004 was great with over 200 players to initially build your 9 player team, but now in 2005, WizKids is going with about 100 or so players. Limited number of MLB players to collect, but this year includes MLB Hall of Famers such as Babe Ruth, Nolan Ryan, and Tom Seaver. The 2005 edition is set to be released on March 30th, and I can't wait for opening day at the Sportsclix ballpark!

Star War Miniatures
From Wizards of the Coast, the first expansion, Rebel Storm, featured figures from Episode IV through VI, and was released when the Star Wars Trilogy was released on DVD way back in September, 2004, and the second expansion, Clone Strike, featured figures from Episode I and II, and was released shortly after Thanksgiving, 2004. Now, the third release will feature figures from Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and is set to be released around the first week of April, a month before the movie itself is due in May. It's a great game, and easy to play, and awesome to collect. How can anyone say no to Star Wars?

The Buffy The Vampire Slayer CCG
Now this was a great game, created by Score Entertainment a few years ago. However, because it was not a financial success, when compared to other games like Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon, Score allowed the license to expire and decided not to continue making cards for the game. Luckily, there's a great players committee over at BuffyCCG.com, supporting the game and it's players. One of these days, I'll get back into the game as much as I have been in the past. But regardless, it still remains a favorite game of mine.

Wildstorms CCG
Now this wouldn't be a TWiWS column without mentioning something related to WildStorm, right? Released back in the heyday of WildStorm comics, the cards for this CCG included all of the heroes from the WSU. But what also made this game great was that WildStorm Productions also produced cards from the Image Universe, and a few cards from the Marvel Universe, as WS Productions was working on Heroes Reborn for Marvel. Even back in the day, there was a Spawn Power Cardz CCG set, which had a few cards that featured WildStorm's Fairchild from Gen13 and Grifter from Wildcats. And also Marvel's old Overpower CCG had an Image Comics expansion with WSU cards, too. Well, the heyday is long gone, but what we do have today is Upper Deck VS System, featuring cards from both Marvel and DC. With the WSU under DC Comics, will we see the WSU in the VS System? Only time will tell… Until then, here are a few images from these old CCGs, to relive the nostalgia. Till next time!

TWiWS 005: All Star Sunday!

Jim Lee's All Star Batman and Robin

I'm writing this about a hour before the 2005 NBA All Star Game, held in Denver, Colorado this year. I figure, since I am in an "All Star" mood, I add this entry to remind you about Jim Lee's upcoming project, All Star Batman and Robin, set to come out in July, from DC Comics, of course.

But still relating to NBA Basketball, way back in the day... Back in 1993, Upper Deck released their 1992-1993 NBA Upper Deck Basketball Set with cards illustrated by Marc Silvestri and Jim Lee. Under the title of Fanimation, Jim Lee's cards depicted NBA greats Larry Bird and Michael Jordan, while Marc Silvestri illustrated Karl Malone and Dikembe Mutombo. Well, for you Jim Lee fans, below are the images from Jim Lee's cards. Now, one of these days, I'll make it to an NBA All Star game... One day...

TWiWS 003: Redbird Flies No More

Cover image to Razor's Edge: Redbird #2

Breaking News! Just posted on Newsarama: Razor's Edge: Redbird cancelled by DC.

Bummer. I wonder if Ed Brubaker signing exclusively to Marvel has anything to do with this? And just when we were ready for more Jason Pearson art. Oh well. *sigh*
